Carla and Crappy Show: The Biggest Little Edition
It’s Week 11 of the college football season, and the games are getting bigger and bigger -- even the littlest of them. To help us navigate one of the best little rivalries, we welcome back Kim Daboo, a #CnCShow veteran who holds a degree from Oregon but was nice enough not to hold that over Crappy’s head. But Kim did manage to set off Crappy’s college football anxieties almost immediately by bringing up Ohio State’s Week 11 opponent: the Purdue Spoilermakers. Commence flashbacks to 2018 in West Lafayette.
AJ takes us through what is a defacto #BakedGoods weekend in the G5 and delivers a fun fact about Boise State and oddly covered football fields. Crappy is still basking the glow of a Cornell win at Penn and he’s hoping against hope for another when the Big Red travels to Dartmouth.
And then? The main events:
No. 8 Oklahoma at No. 13 Baylor (Big Nude Saturday, Fox)
As they considered this year’s schedule back in August, the Sooners probably considered this to be a tune-up game on the way to Bedlam. Funny thing, though -- Baylor turned out to be really good.
No. 6 Michigan at Penn State (Noon Saturday, ABC)
James Franklin doesn’t have as many baffling coaching tendencies as Jimmy Harbaugh, but he does have his moments. If he keeps his headscratchers off the field on Saturday -- and if Penn State gets the home field support it generally does -- this could be a Penn State win.
No. 16 NC State at No. 12 Wake Forest (7:30 p.m. Saturday, ACCN)
Looking for defense? Look elsewhere. With an AJ Fun Index of 66.5, this game will be all about entertainment -- oh, and for a seat at the top of the ACC Atlantic.
Williams at Amherst, (Noon Saturday, find a stream at the Williams Athletics site)
Finally, we turn to the Biggest Little Game in America. Kim, a proud Williams alum, takes us through the rivalry, its origins and its traditions. And Crappy speaks from experience when he says there is little better than beating your rival to clinch a championship -- and that’s what we’re expecting from the 8-0 Ephs (please don’t pronounce that the way Crappy did, OK?)
We wrap the show by going back to the days before #CnCShow existed, when we -- Carla, Crappy and Kim -- were contributors to the late, great Draft Day Suit sports blog. This show began as an offshoot of the occasional grainy, buggy Google + Hangouts to predict NFL games, and Kim was there from the beginning, along with DDS founders/leaders Sarah Bockneck Braesch and Laurie White. We’ll forever be grateful that we had a platform at Draft Day Suit to get this endeavor started, with the full support of Sarah and Laurie. And Crappy will never, ever tire of reminding Sarah of the time he told her that a rookie named Russell Wilson would be a better NFL quarterback than RGIII. So thanks to Sarah, Laurie, Kim and all of the other DDS staffers -- and thanks to you guys once again. Enjoy the games this weekend.
