Carla and Crappy Show: The 2021 Champinchip Week Edition
It’s Week 14 of the college football season, and Carla, Crappy and AJ are ready to dissect all 10 conference championship games coming up this weekend -- well, actually, Carla and AJ are ready; Crappy seems to be in a bad mood, perhaps because he’s still stewing over Ohio State’s loss to TTUN last Saturday. But there’s no crying in college football, and all three dive into the insane coaching carousel of the week, from which school has made the best move so far and who is -- or should be -- in line for shiny new head coaching jobs at Oklahoma and Notre Dame. AJ takes us through one final After Dark report, and it’s a total throwback to the OG #Pac12AfterDark days: USC at Cal at 11 p.m. Saturday. Champinchip games? Oh yes, we have champinchip games: Conference USA: Western Kentucky at UTSA (7 p.m. Friday, CBSSN) We’re starting the slate with the season’s G5 Cinderella against Bailey Zappe, the season’s most prolific quarterback? Yes, please. Pac 12: No. 10 Oregon vs. No. 17 Utah in Las Vegas (8 p.m. Friday, ABC) Duck season. And not in the good way. Big 12: No. 9 Baylor vs. No. 5 Oklahoma State in Arlington, Texas (noon Saturday, ABC) Do Cowboys always win in Jerryworld? The Bears might have something to say about that. Mid-American: Kent State vs. Northern Illinois in Detroit (noon Saturday, ESPN) In terms of playoff consequences, the Big 12 game is probably where you should be at this hour. But if you’re looking for fun -- and an AJ Fun Index of 73.5 -- #MACtion is what you crave. Mountain West: Utah State vs. No. 19 San Diego State in Los Angeles (3 p.m. Saturday, Fox) For a Mountain West matchup, this game will have a distinctly Midwestern feel, thanks to Brady Hoke and his defense. Sun Belt: Appalachian State at No. 24 Louisiana (3:30 p.m. Saturday, ESPN) Billy Napier will coach this final game for the Ragin’ Cajuns before departing for his new gig in Gainesville. SEC: No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 3 Alabama in Atlanta (4 p.m. Saturday, CBS) This is easily the best test for the Bulldogs’ defense this year. But does Bama really have enough to make this interesting? AAC: No. 21 Houston at No. 4 Cincinnati (4 p.m. Saturday, ABC) Carla, Crappy and AJ agree(ish): If the Bearcats win, they’re in. And with Notre Dame apparently not hiring anyone named Luke Fickell, that should be the outcome here. Big Ten: No. 2 Michigan vs. No. 13 Iowa in Indianapolis (8 p.m. Saturday, Fox) Crappy doesn’t want to even talk about this game. And AJ certainly doesn’t want to watch it. ACC: No. 15 Pitt vs. No. 16 Wake Forest in Charlotte (8 p.m., ABC) Here’s a game we can be excited about. Instead of the annual Clemson coronation, we get two of the better offenses in the country trying to outscore the other. What’s not to like? And with our annual Champinchip Week show behind us, we can start getting ready for the funnest show of the year. Bowlapalooza is just around the corner, boys and girls; be sure to watch our socials for updates on when it’s coming. Enjoy all of the title games this weekend, yinz (except for the B1G game -- it will be, in a word, gross), and we’ll see you back here for Bowlapalooza in a couple weeks.
